Evaluation Question 4 - How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Evaluation Question 2 - How effective is the combination of your product and ancillary texts?

The role of the film distributor is to attract and audience for an upcoming film release. This can be achieved through different methods of advertising and promoting. Therefore, it is the distributor's job to encourage the target audience to watch the upcoming film they are publicizing. To do so, they must carry out certain research and provide information in order to entice the audience they are trying to attract. These include:

- Identifying its target audience.
- Considering why they would go and see the film.
- Estimating the revenue potential across all the formats of its release.
- Developing plans and partnerships to build awareness of and interest in the film.
- Getting the target audience interested in visiting the cinema to view the film.
- And most importantly, convincing the cinema operators to play the film.

Different advertising can apply to different films e.g. ones with specific genres. For example, if the distributor were to advertise a horror film on a children's television channel, they would most likely lose their target audience (and their job). But target audience research is very important considering that people have a lot of different tastes when it comes to horror e.g. some can like slasher while others can enjoy psychological. A very popular ad campaign released in 2012 was for 'The Woman in Black' which gathered a lot of attention prior to its release. This was partly due to Daniel Radcliffe's involvement in the 'Harry Potter' franchise, gaining a lot of popularity from younger audiences. This was also popular due to the output of posters, different trailers, television ads, newspaper ads, etc.
